The original Ro-Hawk.
08. Nov 2009 at 18:28

Hello everyone,

I just found this site and thought I would go for a swim in the pool.

My name is Brian Hearn and my father was Claude A. Hearn Jr.  (RFISD Superintendent)

I think that I might be the original Ro-Hawk because when I was just a little boy my father took me on base and showed me a barren piece of land.  He pointed through the window of our car and said, "That is where the High School and football stadium will be some day."

I started school at Randolph in second grade and graduated from RHS in 1974.
Four years later I came back to Randolph and taught Speech and English from 1979 to 1984.

I loved my time at Randolph an have many fond memories.

Even though we may have never met, all of you have had a profound influence me.

Thanks for being part of my life.

Brian

Welcome Brian.  I enjoyed your story, and was in your Heather's class (76).
Do you know where the RHS mascot RoHAwk came from?

Welcome to the Ro-Hawk boards Brian and thank you for the story.  Your father was liked and admired by everyone I know.  I know he did a lot for the RISD, and for that, he will always be remembered.  Please stop by often and post any stories or messages.  Say hi to Heather for us and make sure she checks the boards for the next reunion.
Take care,
Johnny B.

Welcome Brian!!

Your Dad was a hero at Randolph.  I have heard several teachers say when your Dad left, the teachers had much less support for doing their job.  He always advocated for the student and the teacher.  Please check out the attached links to info about your Dad.

Brian,

Remember when you came back  to Randolph as a speech teacher for a year?

You took a group of underclassmen (Freshman/Sophmores) to a speech contest in downtown San Antonio.  We left school around noon....got to the contest site and found the contest did not start till like 6 PM.  You took us to a movie to kill time .....Animal House!

Let's just say my college career did not leave up to expectations.

Dave
